Here is a simple breath work routine that you can do in the morning to start your day off with a sense of calm and focus:
Find a comfortable seated position, either on a chair or on the floor. Make sure your spine is straight and your feet are planted firmly on the ground.
Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, allowing yourself to relax into the present moment.
Begin to focus on your breath. Notice the sensation of the air moving in and out of your nostrils as you inhale and exhale.
As you continue to breathe deeply, try to let go of any distracting thoughts that may come up. If you find your mind wandering, gently redirect your attention back to your breath.
After a few minutes of focusing on your breath, begin to count your breaths. On each inhale, silently count to yourself “one.” On the exhale, count “two.” Continue to count up to ten, then start again at one.
If you lose track of your count or become distracted, don’t worry. Simply start again at one and continue counting.
When you’re ready to finish your breath work routine, slowly open your eyes and take a moment to stretch and ground yourself in the present.
I wanted to keep this one simple. Try not to over think on the concept of if you are doing it right or wrong.
This is exploratory and will not get graded by anyone except you. The most important part of this practice is the ability to notice yourself drifting out of focus and building strategies to bring yourself back to focus. It is not about the amount of time spent doing it.
It is about cultivating a healthy routine that is going to work with you and your schedule. We all are at different stages of our journeys, with different situations. One step at a time and you’ll do just fine. Thanks for reading the move of the day. Now go make a great day.
